Well, this article taught me loads, and has given me much to think about - especially concerning the future possibility of intrenched inflation due to demographic trends (which makes so much sense when you think about it). And that insight about how inflation shaped design is genius. Where do you see this emerging/changing with the recent bout of inflation?
With this level of insight regarding inflation, those magazines missed a treat, Wessie. Their loss.
Thanks Hadden! Unfortunately I think higher prices will mainly lead to people buying cheaper (and more disposable) imported products, at least in Europe. The main reason for this is energy costs. European manufacturing and retail was already struggling to compete with China, but with energy so expensive now they will be even less competitive. The only exception is luxury products. The most wealthy consumers around the world are less affected by inflation, so the gap between their material culture and that of the majority will probably keep growing.
Nog n boek wat jy dalk sou geniet is Sennett, The Fall of Public Man. Ek beveel dit sterk aan.
